Pros and cons
Pros
- You can rotate and tilt the camera from your phone
- Easy to set up on your iPhone or Android
- You can use the camera at full functionality, without having to pay a subscription fee like other camera providers
- You can view the feed in Standard Definition (which saves mobile bandwidth) or High Definition for a crisp picture
Cons
- UPDATE – The camera and the app both received an update in late November of 2020. Ever since the live feed has become delayed. You could stand in front of the camera, and the live feed shows nothing. This has lowered our rating from 4.9 to 4.3. We hope Tenvis will fix this soon!
- I have not yet been able to set up a view on a computer monitor. The Tenvis website offers little additional instructions, aside from the regular setup on a mobile device. If viewing the camera feed on a computer is a must, this camera may not be for you.
- While no subscription is great, the “free” cloud storage is very limited. You can use an SD card for free extra storage though.

Our full review
How I acquired the camera
I recently opened a physical retail store. While crime isn’t really a concern in my area, having a security camera gives peace of mind. So I shopped around online.
I really did not want to pay for a subscription, so free alternative storage was a must for me. Additionally, I did not want an expensive or difficult setup that traditional security cameras require.
This Tenvis wireless network camera comes with mounting hardware and a fairly long cord, which made mounting and setup a breeze.
While I wasn’t expecting much for the price, in all honesty, both my husband and I were blown away. We have tried other cameras and there was always a con or limitation.
What really sets this camera apart is the ability to rotate and tilt the camera with a swipe on your phone! Additionally, you can save up to 8 pre-configured positions.
About the rotation, tilt, and positions
My store is basically a large square area. I have the camera position against a wall that looks directly at the entrance. While that covers most of my store, there are a few blind spots.
So, I saved the regular angle under the #1 position. Then I swiped the camera around a bit, so it looks directly down at my counter and saved that at #2. Then I swiped it to the other side, so the last blind spot is covered, and saved that at #3. If you ever change your mind or wish to fine-tune a position, you can simply overwrite the previously saved position.
This allows you to view the camera, without blind spots, by just tapping a button. And mind, you can access the camera from anywhere!
Access the Tenvis camera from anywhere
The camera requires a wireless network to work. But once set up, it’s accessible from anywhere. This allows my husband, who works from work, to keep an eye on me at the store, at any time.
The two-way talk feature is also a nice plus. Sometimes when there aren’t any customers at my store, my husband will just say “hi”, rather than having to call, while he’s viewing the live feed.
We have actually purchased an additional camera to keep an eye on our furbabies. We travel quite often, and being able to see them at any time just gives that reassurance that they are well.
Using the camera on the app
While I have mentioned the accessibility and functionality of the camera a few times, I wanted to talk about this in a bit more detail as it can easily make or break a product.
I can not speak for the android app, but my husband and I personally use the Tenvisty app. While it doesn’t have the greatest reviews, we really haven’t had any issues with it. It has never force closed, frozen, or anything of the like.
If you do have issues with the Tenvisty app, though, you may be glad to know that the camera is compatible with apps such as Tenvisty, New Tenvis, Tenvis sight, Tenvis P2P, iMegaCam, and others.
In late November of 2020, both the camera and app received an update. This has cause some serious lag to occur on the live feed. We hope Tenvis will fix this soon, so we can increase our score the previous 4.9/5.
